From individual cases to the community impact of adverse drug reactions: measuring tools
OBJECTIVES
The analysis of the safety profile of any medicine should weight up the consequences of a given adverse drug reaction to individual patients exposed to the medicine, as well as the impact on the community.
This course intends to:
Remind you different measures of the incidence of a given adverse drug reaction (ADR)
Describe one measure of the incidence that could be used to calculate the impact of a given ADR on the community
Discuss different consumption measures for medicines and their use to estimate the ADR impact on the community
Discuss a practical example
measures, incidence, ADR, impact, consumption, community
LEARNING OUTCOMES
At the end of the course, you will know:
Different risk estimates and its application to estimate the potential impact of an ADR at a community level, including the NNH
The importance of consumption data to estimate the potential impact of an ADR at a community level
